- New patient appointments are one half hour at times lasting longer. Follow-up appointments are usually scheduled for 15 minutes although exceptions are made depending on circumstances of medical need.
- Physical examinations are one half hour appointments. These appointments are often scheduled to review laboratory results as well. Most of these appointments result in a list of suggestions written for the patient.
- Dr. Kwako does not provide hospital services for his patients. They are covered by a hospitalist team led by Dr. Michele Armet at Cottage Hospital.
- Dr. Kwako is available for urgent calls after hours. His cell phone number is 805-705-6140. He is usually readily available. However, if you have a life-threatening emergency and cannot reach Dr. Kwako, call 911.
- Insurance companies that cover Dr. Kwako’s services include Medicare, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Blue Shield Covered California, Aetna, and most other PPOs. He does not take Medical, Worker’s Compensation or any HMOs.
- MedClaim is the billing company for Dr. Kwako’s patients. They handle all billing issues and are willing to explain insurance decisions. Their phone number is 805-964-3838.
- Requests for medication refills are best handled by calling the pharmacy. They FAX refill requests which Dr. Kwako reviews. Most refills are routine and promptly handled the day requested. However, at times an appointment is necessary to review proper use of the medication, update examination or laboratory requirements.
